When you’ve just started your Youtube channel, it can be quite overwhelming to see and understand your analytics so today we will do a small debrief on the main points you will need to look at!

As a beginner, you’ll need to look at 3 main segments; click through rate, audience retention and engagement.
Click through rate on a thumbnail lets you know the amount of clicks you are receiving on your videos – this analysis could help you understand if your thumbnails ad titles are endearing enough for someone to click on your video.

Audience retention is the percentage of viewers who watch and leave your video at every moment of the video – this can help you see at what point do you lose a viewer and how to improve that segment of your content.
Lastly, we have engagement which is primarily the watch time – if a viewer stays to see your whole video you would have an amazing watch time and overall that is what optimises your video in search results because that Youtube wants from their platform.

Engagement also includes likes, dislikes and comments so always call to action commenting on your videos. Provoke questions and create discussions in your comments – it’s always important to hear what your audience is saying because they are your main feedback.
Another important analytic to observe is the average percentage viewed which is the ability to hold viewer’s attention. High amounts of any of these analytics is rewarded with higher recommendations of your videos in search results.
It is also vital to understand your traffic sources to see how people are finding your channel and to work on the area that is lacking.

Looking at your demographics every now and then to keep track of where your viewers are from and their age helps to shift content to embrace your audience.

For example, you may think you have an over 20 audience, but demographics can show there are many teenagers watching you. Relating to your audience and tailoring your content for them could attract more in that demographic and connect to your viewers more.
The more you work through analytics the more you will start to know the importance of looking at every segment, it can take some time, but it is necessary to understand how to optimise your content and get more views. More Youtube content will be coming so subscribe to stay in the loop!
